Migrating mail from another provider

Existing mail from another provider can be moved into a Vellumail mailbox without installing anything locally - the transfer runs entirely on our servers.

Starting a migration

From Account → Migrate mail, choose the mailbox to migrate into, then provide the old mailbox's IMAP connection details:

• Host and port (for example imap.gmail.com, port 993).
• Encryption - SSL/TLS, STARTTLS, or none, matching the old provider.
• The old email address and its password.

For Gmail or Office 365 accounts with two-factor authentication enabled, an app password is required instead of the normal login password - both providers generate these from their account security settings.

Skipping folders

Optionally list folder patterns to skip, one per line (for example Newsletters/*), if there's mail in the old account you don't want brought across.

While it's running

It's safe to start a migration and leave it running - large mailboxes transfer in the background over as long as they need, and automatically pick back up if interrupted. Progress, message counts, and any errors are shown live on the same page. The old mailbox is only ever read from, never changed or deleted.

Cancelling

A migration in progress can be cancelled from the same page at any time; mail already copied over stays in place.
