Shared mailboxes

A shared mailbox is a team inbox - sales@yourdomain.com, support@yourdomain.com - that nobody logs into directly. Instead, you grant individual people access to it, and they read and send from it through their own webmail login.

Creating a shared mailbox

From Account → Shared mailboxes, choose an address and a display name (e.g. "Sales Team"). This creates the mailbox with no password anyone is ever shown - access is controlled entirely through grants, not shared credentials.

Granting access

Still on the Shared mailboxes page, grant any of your existing mailboxes access at one of two levels:

  • Read only - can view mail in the shared mailbox, but not send as it or make changes.
  • Read & write - can read, organize, and send mail as the shared address.

Access can be revoked at any time from the same page, with no password to change or rotate.

Using a shared mailbox in webmail

Anyone granted access sees a mailbox switcher at the top of their webmail sidebar, listing their own mailbox plus every shared mailbox they've been granted access to. Switching moves the whole webmail view - folders, unread counts, compose "from" address - onto the shared mailbox until they switch back.

A limitation worth knowing

Shared mailboxes are only available for standard (non zero-knowledge) mailboxes. A zero-knowledge mailbox's private key is wrapped by its own account password alone, which makes it unreadable by design to anyone else - including a shared-access grant.
